Dr Eshetu Worku

Dr Eshetu Worku – Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Dr Eshetu Worku is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the HEU. Before this, he was a Senior Lecturer in economics in the Department of Economics at the University of Fort Hare and a Researcher at the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). He completed a BA degree in economics at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia; a masters in economics at Aligarh Muslim University, India and holds a PhD in Economics from the University of the Western Cape.

Research interests: Social determinants of health, health economics, applied econometrics, development, small enterprises and financing.

Current research projects:
(1) REACH –Researching Equity in Access to Health Care, (2) NRF- South African Research Chair in Health and Wealth.

Current teaching: Introduction to Health Economics and Health Policy/Health Economics I for Postgraduate Diploma Course (2) Economics of health system –Social Determinants of health for Maters Programme.
