posted on 17 January, 2011 under Latest News, News

Congratulations to HEU director, Sue Cleary, who has just been promoted by UCT to Associate Professor level.

She has a PhD in Health Economics from the University of Cape Town entitled “Equity and efficiency in health and health care for HIV-positive adults in South Africa”.

A/Prof Sue Cleary’s research focuses on  the economics of HIV-treatment and prevention, primarily in the areas of equity in access and outcomes, efficiency and the costs and financial implications of scaling-up antiretroviral treatment. She convenes the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Economics and coordinates and teaches on a number of modules on the Masters in Public Health specialising in Health Economics.

She has also been involved in capacity-building through her role as coordinator for the Health Economics & Policy Network in Africa from 2005 to 2008 and through participation in policy activities (e.g., through providing input to a number of initiatives to assess the costs of increasing access to HIV treatment and prevention programmes in South Africa and in the region, including the Costing Task Team of the 2007-2011 “National Strategic Plain for HIV/AIDS”).

We wish her everything of the best in her promotion.
