Job vacancy: Research Officer

The Health Policy & Health Systems Programme is a research programme within the School of Public Health and Family Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences. It is involved in a growing range of research, teaching and policy engagement activities addressing issues of health policy implementation and health system development in South Africa and Africa. The programme falls within the Health Economics Unit (HEU). Formally established in 1990, this unit has worked towards strengthening capacity in health economics, management and policy through its core competencies of research, policy input and postgraduate education.
 
The Health Policy & Health Systems Programme is seeking to recruit a Research Officer to work within an existing and innovative research project being conducted in collaboration with health system managers in the public sector. This project, the District Innovation and Action Learning for Health Systems project (DIAHLS), is being implemented through an innovative action research approach and addresses issues of health system development and health policy implementation within the context of the South African District Health System.

Candidates are expected to have expertise in health systems/services research or related fields i.e. public policy/administration, development studies/policy, political science, organisational management/development, health economics. They must be critical thinkers, able to work across disciplines and bridge practice and research, able to take initiative and work well with health service and academic colleagues.
