Another new project in health care financing began this year: Financing and benefit incidence analysis in Uganda and Zambia. The main aim of the research is to critically evaluate patterns of health care financing and benefits from the use of health services in Uganda and Zambia, to provide an evidence base for promoting equitable health systems in these countries. The project will continue until 2012 with funding by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). The HEU will work with 2 other partners: the HealthNet Consult in Uganda and the Department of Economics at the University of Zambia. The main role of the HEU is to provide research and technical support.
The unit hosted an inception workshop recently for our colleagues from Uganda and Zambia to get the project off the ground.
A similar project was completed in 2010 by the HEU with other collaborators which looked at health care financing issues for South Africa, Ghana and Tanzania. You can click here to read all the findings.
